The complexity of storytelling (including main theme of story arcs)
The complexity of storytelling
In the show Peaky Blinders, there are various story arcs.
Which different story arcs are evident? The story arcs that evident include:
-Tommy Shelbys Rise to Power, which follows Tommy Shelby, the leader of the Peaky Blinders gang, as he navigates the criminal world of Birmingham in the aftermath of World War I.
-Family dynamics and rivalries, as the relationship between Tommy, his brothers, and their Aunt are explored by highlighting their conflicts, shared family history, and alliances. These bonds are tests by various challenges.
-Gang Wars and Power struggles, as throughout the show the “Peak Blinders: engage in clashes with other gangs such as the Sabine family. Those gang wars and power struggles create intense and violent story arcs.
-The show contains elements of Todorov’s narrative theory which stated that all narratives contain equilibrium, disequilibrium, recognition, resolution, and new equilibrium, but does not strictly follow the theory. The show tends to be more complex with multiple story arcs and characters development that extend beyond the initial disruption and subsequent resolution.
-The show contains aspects of Todorovs narrative theory but is mostly known for its intricate plotting, non-linear storytelling, character development, subplots, and ongoing conflicts throughout the story.
-The story arcs feed into the main narrative arc because the story arcs create a sense of ongoing tension and unresolved issues, which diverges from Todorovs concept of a clear new equilibrium at the end of the narrative and feed into the main narrative arc.
